An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Operations to join our Cavaghan & Gray site in Carlisle. The business was formed in 1912 and was known as Cavaghan, Collin & Gray. They were originally farmers and meat processors. In 1962, C&G commenced supply to M&S. By the early 1970s, the company launched three of the first-ever prepared ready meal products including cauliflower cheese, cottage pie and Cumberland pie. In 2012, C&G celebrated its 100 year anniversary and 50 year anniversary of supplying to M&S.

About the Role:

As the Head of Operations you will be part of the site senior management team and report into the Site Director. The position will be responsible for the operations of 3 Factories across 2 sites, each with their own management structure. The sites produce around 90 million meals annually with 150 products made daily over a 7 day operation and an annual turnover of £140 million. You will oversee the management of over 850 production staff. We are a seasonal business, mainly winter which will mean at our busiest period we will also have up to 400 agency staff assisting with production. We are looking for a very strong directional and inspirational leader who has experience of full P&L management and continuous Improvement Lean Manufacturing. The role requires you to not only to be looking inwards at the business but also outwards to understand the customer. Cavaghan & Gray’s main customer is M&S and this role will need to build on the strong working relationships we have developed.

• Experience of managing 850+ production employees, ideally in a diverse & unionised environment
• Proven experience of delivering successful change management & performance improvement programmes
• Knowledge of and experience of operating ‘Lean’ manufacturing techniques
• Ability to drive cultural change
• Able to deliver results in a fast paced environment
