About the Role:

A varied and challenging opportunity has arisen for an experienced HR Business Partner at one of our biggest FMCG sites in Carlisle, with a £130m turnover over 3 factories. Joining a team of approximately 9, which encompasses L&D, HR and Occupational Health, and provides advice for circa 1100 employees, 70 managers and agency personnel (500 FTE in peak).

The business was formed in 1912 and was known as Cavaghan, Collin & Gray. They were originally farmers and meat processors. In 1962, C&G commenced supply to M&S. By the early 1970s, the company launched three of the first-ever prepared ready meal products including cauliflower cheese, cottage pie and Cumberland pie. In 2012, C&G celebrated its 100 year anniversary and 50 year anniversary of supplying to M&S.

This role is pivotal in driving the HR business partnering model to ensure that HR provides proactive, strategic and operational support across the business. You will be involved in delivering the implementation and alignment of initiatives and policies across the business to enhance organisational effectiveness.

At this point in time this role requires a strong generalist with employment law knowledge who is able to hit the ground running and make an impact. Typically 80% operational and 20% project work with challenges including; volume, getting the basics right, putting policies and procedures in place and enhancing manager capability.

You will be required to:

  • Proactively manage the day to day HR advice requests
  • Support and lead team to proactively manage ER casework; disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, etc
  • Advise colleagues on best practice and HR procedure
  • Actively work alongside the HR Manager to lead HR projects
  • Revise, develop and implement HR policies and processes on an ongoing basis.
