What St Austell Brewery have to say...
Founded in 1851 by Cornishman Walter Hicks, today St Austell Brewery remains 100% independent and family owned. St Austell Brewery operates a growing and diverse business.
Our thriving estate spans the South West ranging from Bristol in the east to the Isles of Scilly in the west. Indeed many of the South West’s most famous pubs are part of the St Austell Brewery estate and you will usually find one of our pubs at the heart of every community, particularly in Cornwall.
On 1st July 2016, the Brewery made an historic deal to acquire and develop fellow west country brewer Bath Ales Limited. Founded in 1995, this will include their brewery between Bath and Bristol, its portfolio of beer brands, including Gem and Barnsey and its 11 strong pub estate across Bath, Bristol, Cirencester and Oxford.
A company that has been long admired by Chief Executive James Staughton for its award winning beer, St Austell Brewery are eager to make a long-term investment into the Bath Ales brand, pub estate, brewing facilities and people, all of whom share our passion for creating great beer and providing excellent customer service. We are also committed to bringing the Bath Ales brands to the forefront of the South West market through our free trade business.
Roger Jones, Founder and Managing Director of Bath Ales, said: “This is a really exciting move for Bath Ales. With the investment and broader support from St Austell Brewery we are better placed to capture the opportunity that exists for Bath Ales”, adding that “from the first contact with St Austell Brewery we genuinely found people and an operation that have a consistent set of values and the same commitment to quality. The combined business will be a force to be reckoned with.”
St Austell Brewery are looking forward to working closely with the Managing Director of Bath Ales, Roger Jones, to integrate the two companies – investing in the brewing and packaging facilities at Bath Ales, where their beer will still be produced, whilst continuing to produce our award winning ales in Cornwall.
